How do you get into the "Elite" Delta Force and the Special Forces of the Army?

You can move into the SF community one of two ways. One, you may get what's refered to as an 18X contract through your recruiter if you're a HS Grad, 20 y/o, and have a 110 GT score on your ASVAB test. None of this is waivorable mind you. The second way to obtain your Green Beret is by joining the Army in any MOS (job) and putting in a Special Forces packet. After the initial look through you'll get orders for a SFAS(Special Forces Assessment and Selection) class date. This course lasts 4 weeks and seperates the men from the boys so to speak. If you are a pass/selectee then you will be given a Q-course(Qualification course) date. Your next stage is 1 to 2 years long depending upon which of the 6 jobs you go picked up for. If you graduate Q-course you will do so with the pinning of the long tab and the donning of the Green Beret.
To apply for SFOD-D(Special Forces Operational Detatchment-Delta), you must be a Non-Commissioned Officer, again any MOS will suffice. Most of the guys that apply and actually get selected are from 75th Ranger Regiment or one of the Special Forces Groups, however anyone may attempt to try out. The SFOD-D tryouts are roughly 3 weeks long and end with a grueling oral psychological evaluation. There are events such as and 18 mile road march, land navigation course that is "rumored" to cross at least 3 state lines. If you pass this selection process then you begin the OTC(operator trainer course) during which you are on a strict probationary period and may be terminated at anytime for anything at all.
