2001 Mazda MPV Suggestions for mountain driving?
I'm driving out west and will be driving up mountain passes with switchbacks as high as 6000-10,000 feet (summit). Van in good shape w/49,000 mi. Should I use lower gear, wondering about any power issues.
You shouldn't have any problems at all with your Vee. While the 2001 MPV isn't the most powerful vehicle, all you need to do is turn off the overdrive when you need to. For added measure, look into possibly getting a transmission cooler installed to keep things in check. If my answer isn't enough to change your mind. Search mpvclub.com. That's the site I recommend to all MPV owners. I am an MPV owner as well. In fact, I own two MPVs and that's where I go for all of my info. There's more info on that site than any mechanic can tell you. This question has probably been asked so make sure to visit that website.
