Hunting survival question..........?
after reading newells post about pine needles and trash bags.an such....ah, should I pack like 50 35 gallon garbage bags with me in all my pockets when hunting now that I know that I am supposed to fill em with pine needles to keep warm and all that............Or, would it be easier to just pack a blanket or two or heres an idea....How about a SLEEPING BAG??????????????????LOLOLOL!

I didn't read the post, but allow me to comment on using trash bags as a sleeping bag. I got news for you, you would die of hypothermia! How do I know this? Allow me to explain...
Many years ago someone gave me a bunch of super duper heavy duty trash bags that were meant to be used to collect asbestos. The bags were bright orange in color to show that they would contain toxic items so that they needed to be disposed of in a special landfill area. Again...these were new bags.
I thought it would nice to take one of these bags along with me while deer hunting in the event that it might rain. All I would need to do is cut three holes for my head and arms to exit and I would be set.
It did rain and I put my plan into action. Placing the bag over my body with my head and arms sticking out. Ok, so this is what happened next. The temp outside was about 40 F and my body heat is about 98.6 F. Plus, I was wearing insulated hunting clothes, so maybe temp between my body and clothing was closer to 102 F. The next thing I knew, I started sweating. I mean, really sweating. I could feel sweat running down my neck and down my back and my clothes were quickly becoming wet - not from the rain, but from my own sweat.
The moral of this story is that things like clothing, sleeping bags and even tents need to "breath". If you stuff your body inside of a plastic trash bag you are going to sweat like crazy, and then get cold chills when the sweat starts to overly cool your body. It just won't work. Trash bags as a means of making a rainproof shelter? Ok, yes. But only because there will be air spaces for the shelter to breath.
If anyone doesn't believe me, feel free to try this yourself. Just put on a trash bag and walk around when it's raining one day. It's a great way to loose weight.
