How Do You Clean a Driver Jacket?
I have a filthy dirty driver jacket (waxed cotton) to clean. It also has a heavy quilted flannel liner. Not sure how to clean it, so any advice is appreciated. The dirt is mostly barn dirt and cow manure. It's so dirty that I am willing to try even what is not recommended for this type of fabric.
My suggestions: Machine wash in cold water (full tub) on a delicate cycle, then add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of household ammonia to the wash water. Or you could wash it by hand in the bath tub using only the 1/2 cup.
If you want to just spot clean the jacket, than wash it by hand later, you should use 2 parts water to 1 part rubbing alcohol. (FYI- the basic ingredient of commercial spot removers)
Always line dry and use cold water to avoid shrinkage. Good Luck

Another option is: Let all the dirt and manure dry out completely, than take a clean soft shoe brush and brush as much of the dirt away as possible before washing.
